Knife Party’s last EP was definitely one of the best releases in the Dubstep world this past year. Their track “Internet Friends” crossed over from just being a hit amongst Dubstep fans to being played by big name DJ’s in every EDM sub genre. Based on the huge success of their last EP their follow up had very big shoes to fill. I honestly didn’t think their next EP could top “100% No Modern Talking” but their latest release “Rage Valley EP” definitely tops it. They definitely showcase a deeper Dubstep sound on these tracks, which i’m very fond of. Each track definitely sounds different and each incorporate different elements. The track “Rage Valley” is the closest to the sound they had on their previous EP. They throw in a drum break down at certain points of the track and then incorporate different snare sounds to maintain the drum feel, which gives it a nice touch. Another track on the EP is “Centipede”, which most people heard them play in their Ultra set. Without knowing I actually heard this track for the first time this weekend at EDC NYC. Nero played this towards the end of their set and once I heard the intro I thought to myself “Where did they find this??”. Knife Party is known to experiment with different concepts and vocals on their tracks, and the track “Centipede” pretty much falls in to that category. The track starts off like the beginning of a documentary you’d see on National Geographic, with a voice talking about centipedes and how centipedes attack tarantula’s. It’s definitely random but the drop on this track is sick and definitely the deepest track on the EP sound wise. If you’re a Dubstep fan definitely give this EP a listen, you wont be disappointed.

Zedd definitely surprised us with this track when he posted it on his Soundcloud a few days ago. This track is definitely a change from what we usually expect and hear from Zedd. The best way I could describe it is: Progressive house + Zedd’s dub electro sound = This amazing track. It’s definitely a change from what we usually expect of Zedd and I love the new sound he experiments with on this track. If you didn’t know it was a Zedd track off the bat you would think you’re listening to a progressive house song by just the intro alone. It’s very melodic with the vocals of Matthew Koma over it. Matthew Koma has a very light and smooth voice, which just adds more to the progressive house element. As the track continues Zedd add’s some distorted synths adding his style to the progressive house elements. The drop on this track is crazy because it’s like you’re getting two drops in one. It builds up as if a house drop is coming and it does, but with a crazy assortment of distorted synths and a deep bass on top of it giving it a Dubstep feel. I love how he combined both styles on this track, and i’m excited to see if this is a new sound direction he’s going in or what other style surprises he has up his sleeves. This track is scheduled to be officially released on June 4th.

Midnight Conspiracy has definitely been moving up quickly in the Dubstep world. They just got signed by AM Only, which is a New-York based booking agency that has big name DJ’s such as Tiesto, David Guetta, and Skrillex on their roster. To commemorate the signing they’ve released this massive Dubstep mixtape. I’m pretty impressed with the tracklist and the variety of Dubstep DJ’s they’ve included. There really isn’t any commercial tracks on it and not one Skrillex track, which is surprising and honestly a breath of fresh air in the Dubstep world. They’ve also thrown in three unreleased tracks from their upcoming EP “The Eye”.
They also unveiled their new “Eye Live- Laser Show” for the first time in Florida. The performance features a 16-foot version of their “Eye” logo accompanied with a full on LED laser light show. Aside from legends like Daft Punk and Deadmau5 few DJ’s attempt to create their specific own light show and build a custom DJ booth for their shows. Eye live is a project the group has been designing and constructing with robot maker, The Chaotic Good.
